I have to point out that I am not comparing which is better because they are both great. I am only wanting to point out that when we are talking Fascial Fitness Training using the Myofascial Meridians, that resistance bands are the better option, so lets get into why.
For anyone who knows me or has trained under me you know that I love the kettlebell as a go to for strength endurance. I was introduced to the KB system while working over seas in 2005 and have incorporated them into my life ever since. If KB's are not available then Dumbbells work as a great alternative. The range of training you get using the KB or DB is vast but still limited. for Sagittal plane with linear paths they work awesome but when you are truly training functional movement they come up short.
Resistance bands on the other hand are only limited in there raw strength development that heavy KB or DB provide. But what they lack in power they more than make up for in proper development of functional strength and mobility. Using the Free weights you are limited to the affects of gravity for tension, with resistance bands the tension always changes depending on where you lever the band. And this alone makes Myofascial body line development vastly superior. The other factor is that with bands you can control tempo and contraction thru transverse & rotational plane with multiple angles of tension creating a much deeper core emphasis.
If you are the type of person who really sticks to certain exercises like squats, deadlifts, chest or shoulder pressing and simple pulling your body will feel imbalanced because the body is designed to work as one muscle as we move and navigate thru our lives and sport. Training should always replicate and improve our everyday movements. Again, I'm not saying strength and power don't have purpose, science has just proven that for the average person it should be learning how to move and improve function that has most value.
Happy Holidays and I wish all of you the best in 2018.
